Rutherford’s deteriorating bridges
Each marker shows the location of a Rutherford County, Tennessee, bridge rated “structurally deficient” in the Federal Highway Administration’s 2017 National Bridge Inventory. Red markers indicate the bridges with the worst ratings.

The most deteriorated of these deficient bridges – those represented by a red dot on the map – include a bridge on South Lowry Street in Smyrna, Tennessee, that carries an average of nearly 23,000 vehicles per day over a creek just south of Mitchell Avenue.

In somewhat better condition, but still deemed in need of repair, is a bridge over the railroad tracks that intersect South Church Street in Murfreesboro. That bridge carries an average of nearly 22,000 vehicles per day.
